The Convent of the Sisters of Sion, where I am doing my biblical programme, is located at Ecce Homo on the Via Dolorosa. "Ecce Homo" - "Behold the man" - spoken by Pilate. But the Archway is later than the time of Jesus. In the convent a pavement of red stones was unearthed. This is thought to have been part of the marketplace which the emperor Hadrian built. The reference from John's gospel could be relevant: the pavement where Pilate and Jesus passed judgment on each other. The second photo is a view from the terrace of the convent of the temple area and the Old City.
